BANGOR – The Bangor Symphony Orchestra’s classical concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, at the Maine Center for the Arts opens the new year with a program of Bach, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky. The snow date for the concert is 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13.

Arcady Music Festival Artistic Director Masanobu Ikemiya joins the symphony to perform Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Concerto No. 1.” Jonathan Hallstrom, conductor for the Colby College Symphony Orchestra, will lead the symphony’s concert. The program also includes Bach’s “Orchestral Suite No. 1,” and Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 4.”

Masanobu Ikemiya, known to many in the region as Arcady Music Festival’s artistic director and founder, is known for his joyous and expressive tone. Ikemiya has received worldwide acclaim for his musicianship. His honors include the United Nations award for promoting world peace through music.

Hallstrom is a familiar face to many Bangor Symphony musicians who play with the college symphony. He has been guest conductor for symphonies in the United States, England and France. In addition to teaching at Colby College, he also pursues an active career as a composer of electro-acoustic music. His compositions are performed throughout the United States, Europe and Japan.

The Arcady Music Festival will hold a reception for Masanobu Ikemiya and Jonathan Hallstrom after the concert at the Maine Center for the Arts Bodwell Lounge where the audience will have the opportunity to meet the artists.
