Warren Center grant

BANGOR – The Warren Center for Communication and Learning has received a $2,000 grant from the Agnes M. Lindsay Trust. The grant will fund the installation of DSL Internet service at the Warren Center. Upgrading to DSL will allow the center to bill electronically, verify insurance eligibility, coverage and claim status, and allow staff greater access to the Internet for clinical and development research.

The Warren Center also has been awarded a $2,250 grant from the Maine Charity Foundation Fund, administered by the Maine Community Foundation. The grant, written to support the center’s regional hearing aid bank program, will provide hearing aids to five individuals who are unable to afford one or receive one through another assistance program.

The Warren Center provides speech and hearing services to children and adults throughout central Maine. A not-for-profit institution since 1961, the Warren Center has helped many to overcome barriers to effective communication and learning, and continues to do so through a variety of programs. In addition to audiology services and speech therapy, Warren Center programs range from workshops for family caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients to Maine’s first auditory-oral program, which teaches the deaf to speak.

This is the second grant the Warren Center has received from the Agnes M. Lindsay Trust. The New Hampshire-based trust was a pacesetting contributor to the Warren Center’s capital campaign in 1996.

The Agnes M. Lindsay Trust was established in 1939 with a mission to use its funds for charitable, educational or philanthropic purposes. Lindsay was concerned particularly with the education of needy students in rural communities, the relief of suffering and child welfare.
