Environmental leadership

UNITY – The Unity College Women’s Environmental Leadership Program is sponsoring the First Annual Student Leader Award.

The award is designed to honor young Maine women who show a serious commitment to a better environment. The program seeks to encourage personal discovery and empowerment for young women interested in environmental science, natural resources or environmental action and to offer the tools needed to become confident leaders.

Program officials seek nominations of young women who are high school seniors who demonstrate an interest and involvement in activities that foster environmental stewardship and who show the promise of being future leaders in the environmental field. The young women to be honored will not only show an interest in environmental problems, but also work actively on the solutions.

Nomination forms and guidelines are available by calling Kay Fiedler at (800) 624-1024, or e-mail kfiedler@unity.edu. Application deadline is Feb. 1.
