Keller lifts Broncos by Old Town

HAMPDEN – Ben Keller scored his 1,000th career point and finished with 28 in the game to power the Hampden Academy Broncos to a 69-47 schoolboy basketball victory over the Old Town Indians Monday night.

Kyle Dalton chipped in with 16 points and eight assists for the winners while Jordan Cook and Keller each grabbed 11 rebounds.

Mike Petrie paced Old Town with 17 points and Tyler Tracewski added 12.

At Searsport, Matt Mulligan scored 11 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter when the Penobscot Valley Howlers outscored the Vikings 25-15 en route to the win.

Dustin Nicholson added 13 points for the winners and Mulligan grabbed 13 rebounds.

Ryan Mitchell paced Searsport with 13 points and Josh McFarlin and Spencer Garton each added 11. McFarlin also had nine rebounds, five assists and four steals.

At Alfond Arena in Orono, Dylan Huckestein scored two of Orono’s three, second-period goals in the victory.

Travis Bryant scored the first goal unassisted and then Huckestein notched the next two, the first off assists from Derek Smith and Chad Sanborn and the second off a John Tuell pass. Keith Hedrick finished with 11 saves on 13 shots for the 4-6 winners.

Kyle Maynard scored an unassisted goal for the 3-7 Crusaders of Bangor and assisted on Matt Holmes’ goal. Dan Leighton made 30 saves on 33 shots.

Girls basketball

Hampden 39, Hermon 33

At Hermon, Emmy Russell went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line en route to 12 points as the Broncos edged the Hawks.

Jillian Beal contributed 11 points for Hampden.

Jessie Wiggin had a game-high 17 points and Shannon Wiggin grabbed six rebounds for Hermon.

Pam Reitsma and Danielle Miller scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Bangor Christian.

Robin Larlee led Schenck with 11 points and Jesse Hanington added nine.

At Dexter, Ashley Ames poured in 29 points and Ashley Foster added 20 to power the undefeated Tigers to their 12th victory.

Dexter broke a 34-34 halftime tie and outscored the Red Devils of Corinth 22-5 in the third quarter as Ames scored seven points and Foster added five.

Ames also had 12 rebounds while Foster had five assists and Brittany Veazie had six steals.

Jenny Rollins paced Central with 19 points and Traci Underhill and Katie Ahearn each put in eight.
