University of Maine star guard and WNBA player Cindy Blodgett, will have another chance to play professionally in America after playing in France this winter.

The Clinton native and former Lawrence High star has signed a contract to play for the Springfield (Mass.) Spirit of the National Women’s Basketball League, which begins play Feb. 2.

The semipro league schedule lasts from February through April and allows each team to have no more than two former WNBA players on its roster. Other players in the league are University of Connecticut stars Rebecca Lobo, Sue Bird, and Kara Wolters.

A member of the Cleveland Rockers and Sacramento Monarchs during a five-year WNBA career and assistant coach at Boston University for a year, Blodgett remains interested in coaching, but only after her playing days are over.
