Slide exhibition puts camera club on map

BANGOR – The Eastern Maine Camera Club will hold New England’s first International Slide Exhibition at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Bangor Public Library. In case of bad weather, the exhibit will be postponed to Feb. 20 at Parks and Recreation, 647 Main St.

The meeting is free to the public and will feature 150 slides from EMCC and sister clubs, the Midtfyn Camera Club in Denmark and the Drogheda Photographic Society in Ireland. Donations will be accepted.

According to the New England Camera Club Council, a regional organization of about 100 local clubs throughout the Northeast, EMCC is the first member organization to hold an international photographic exhibition, and the first club in the umbrella organization to establish sister club affiliations in other countries.

The International Slide Exhibition has two categories – “Where We Live,” a 60-slide travelogue with 20 slides from each club; and “Our Best: Competition Quality,” 30 award- winning and exemplary slides from each club.

The slide tour was first shown in Denmark, where Midtfyn Camera Club president Finn Nielson served as host. After the Bangor leg of the tour, the exhibit travels to Ireland, where Drogheda Photographic Society president Des Clinton, also president of Ireland’s national photo organization, will serve as the exhibit’s host the first week in March.
