Gentle man who cares

With reference to your Jan. 18-19 article about Harold Bouchard, not only did he pioneer logging transportation techniques while creating his trucking company, he has also made his mark with outstanding community service.

As the Bangor Area Chamber of Commerce 2003 Norbert X. Dowd Award recipient Jan. 22, Harold was honored for his civic mindedness and his commitment to community service. A man of humility and integrity, he has quietly and effectively helped to drive Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Campaign of Hope for new imaging and radiation technologies for Cancer Care of Maine and the Breast and Osteoporosis Center. As a Campaign of Hope committee member and head cheerleader, Harold has challenged, motivated and inspired his fellow committee members to achieve remarkable results in their campaign efforts.

I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge his support of the Children’s Miracle Network of Eastern Maine Healthcare and the Professional Logging Contractors “Log-A-Load for Kids” Program to benefit pediatric healthcare services at our local CMN hospitals.

His commitment to this program helps to assure excellence in pediatric healthcare for the children of eastern, central and northern Maine.

Harold Bouchard is a friend to those of all ages – children and adults. A gentle man who cares, he has dedicated much of his life to community service, and in the process has made a significant difference in the lives of all he has touched with his caring. His is a life well-lived.

The award is well deserved.
