A Bangor man escaped injury when his car rolled over Sunday evening in Brewer, but the accident knocked out power for 2,000 Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. customers an hour before the start of the televised Super Bowl.

Police said the car clipped a utility pole near 237 Eastern Ave. in Brewer about 5 p.m.

Roland Keezer, 28, wasn’t injured in the accident, but received two criminal summonses.

Crews from Bangor Hydro cut power to the poles before 6 p.m. to make repairs. The outage affected most of north Brewer, including North Main Street, Eastern Avenue, State Street and Washington Street. A spokeswoman for Bangor Hydro said crews had power completely restored by 8:30 p.m.

Brewer police had received a report that a car had struck a utility pole just after 5 p.m., Cpl. Jason Moffitt said. He arrived to find a pole sheared in half and wires hanging low, touching the ground in places. He also saw a Pontiac sedan on its roof, although Keezer wasn’t present. Witnesses reported seeing the occupant leaving the accident on foot, Moffitt said.

A short time later, Detective Fred Luce was traveling in an unmarked car on Pierce Road when he saw Keezer walking and apparently not dressed for the weather, Moffitt said. Luce brought Keezer back to the accident, where he said he had been alone in the vehicle when he drifted off the road and struck the utility pole, Moffitt said.

Keezer wasn’t intoxicated, but had consumed alcohol, making it a potential contributing factor to the accident, Moffitt said.

Keezer was issued a summons for leaving the scene of a property damage accident, as well as for operating after revocation of his license. Moffitt estimated damage to the car at more than $5,000.

Police charged a Bangor woman with two counts of assault Friday night after she struck two officers trying to arrest her for theft of services.

Deborah Oldis, 39, was taken to Penobscot County Jail, where she remained Sunday after her probation officer placed a hold on her probation.

At 8 p.m. Friday, Bangor police Officers James Dearing and Chris Morley responded to Lot 54 at 501 Union St. to a complaint by James Storen of Airport River Taxi. Storen said he picked up two females at Judy’s Bar on State Street and took them to the Union Street address, but that one of the two had run off without paying.

Morley located the second woman, later identified as Oldis, and the cabdriver identified her as the passenger who had agreed to pay.

Oldis said she had only a few quarters of the $8.50 cab fare, and Dearing attempted to arrest her for theft of services.

Oldis hit Dearing on the head with plastic coat hangers and hit and kicked him again when he grabbed her arm, the report said. She also scratched Dearing’s face and bit both the officers’ hands when they restrained her against a taxi, the report said. Oldis was subdued and taken to the cruiser, but not before attempting to spit on the officers.

Oldis was charged with two counts of assault, resisting arrest and theft of services, the report said. Oldis’ court date is March 3.

Old Town police searched a Spring Street apartment Friday afternoon, arresting two people and seizing the drugs Ecstasy and marijuana.

Authorities had been tipped that the drugs were inside Apartment No. 7 at the Riverview Terraces apartments. The tip had included information that somebody had bought drugs from that apartment, said Old Town police Officer Thomas Adams.

Old Town police executed the search warrant about 3:30 p.m., assisted by state troopers, Orono police officers and Maine drug enforcement agents.

Authorities charged Geovanny Guzman, 21, with aggravated trafficking in a Schedule W drug, Ecstasy, after they found 19 Ecstasy pills in plastic bags in his room. His roommate, Danielle Carey, also 21, was charged with trafficking in Schedule Z drugs, marijuana, after Adams said investigators found a large amount of marijuana in plastic bags in her room.

In both cases the charges were elevated to aggravated status because the apartment where the drugs were found was within 1,000 feet of the Herbert Sargent School.

A third person, Darren Orne, 21, was inside the apartment, and investigators said they found a pipe with white residue on it. So they summoned him for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Adams said the search warrant also netted some other drug paraphernalia and about $500 in cash.
