A Bangor man was arrested for drunken driving early Saturday morning after he crashed his car into a utility pole on Valley Avenue and fled the scene on foot.
Stephen Curtis Jr., 26, wasn’t injured in the accident.
Around 1 a.m., Bangor police Officers Josh Ouellette and Chad Foley went to the scene of a car accident on Valley Avenue. According to police reports, a passer-by saw a car in the ditch and electrical wires across the road, as well as a male walking up the street away from the accident. The officers couldn’t find the owner at the scene, but traced the registration to Curtis, the report said. The officers went to Curtis’ residence at 791 Kenduskeag Ave. to question him.
Curtis said he had been driving the car alone at the time of the accident a half-hour earlier, according to the report. Curtis said he hadn’t had anything to drink since the accident, but admitted to drinking before the accident. When Ouellette asked him how much, Curtis replied “too much,” the report said. Ouellette observed Curtis swaying during a field sobriety test and reported that Curtis later said he couldn’t complete the test.
Curtis was arrested for operating under the influence and taken to Penobscot County Jail where his blood alcohol content was measured at 0.17. The damage to the car was estimated at $4,000.

He added that the thefts occurred mostly over weekends when the store was busy.
Vafiades estimated the value of all the DVDs and video games at $4,440.
