ORONO – Cindy Biron scored off a Karen Droog assist 54 seconds into overtime Friday, lifting the University of Maine women’s hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Cornell at Alfond Arena.

The 7-10-4 Black Bears rallied to tie the game after pulling the goalie with 21 seconds left. Nicole Munro scored off a Raffi Wolf assist seven seconds later to force the overtime.

Dawn Froats made 26 saves to backstop the Bears.

Caitlin Warren had put the Big Red (1-14-1) ahead with a second-period goal. Sanya Sandahl registered 26 stops for Cornell.

Women’s basketball

Colby 77, Middlebury 60

At Wadsworth Gym in Waterville, Wendy Bonner scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Colby to its 13th victory.

Bianca Belcher chipped in with 15 points for the winners. Sarah Walsh added 14 points and Caitlin Bourque netted 10.

Alexis Batten paced Middlebury with 13 points.

Ashley Swett netted 23 points and had 10 rebounds for CMTC. Kristi Brooker scored 14 points and Tammy Tibeault had 13. Lynn Girouard netted 11 points and handed out 10 assists.

Kathy Geddis scored 16 points for New Hampshire Technical Institute and Liz Samson added 12.

At Auburn, Musa Kamara poured in 27 points to pace New Hampshire Technical Institute to victory.

Dais Oshimoto tallied 15 points for the winners and Nate Truncellitl added 11. James Thrope and Kenny Oulette scored 10 each.

Dave Brown sparked Central Maine Tech with 21 points. Chris Brackett tossed in 14 and Josh Berard had 11.
