Eastern Maine Class A Championship

Time, site: Skowhegan, 8 a.m. weigh-in, wrestling begins at 9:30 a.m.

Teams competing: Brewer, Cony of Augusta, Gardiner, Morse of Bath, Mount Ararat of Topsham, Mt. Blue of Farmington, Nokomis of Newport, Oxford Hills of South Paris and Skowhegan

Last year’s team champion: Mt. Blue

Teams to watch: Skowhegan, Brewer, Gardiner

Outlook: The whole complexion changes from the PVC and KVAC championships of a week ago. There will be fewer wrestlers, openings the door for Brewer, which finished sixth at last week’s PVC championship. Watch for Brewer’s Chris Noyes at 152 pounds, Jeff Madden at 171 and Ricky Study at 125 to score big for the Witches. Jing Mai of Cony at 135 and another 125-pounder, Seth Webber of Mt. Blue, return with championship experience. Nokomis’ Dean Ouellette could score at 215. Skowhegan’s Brandon Hamilton is the favorite at 160. He won the state 152 title last year and the 130-pound title in 2001.

Notes: Doors open to the public at 7:30 a.m. Full concession, serving all day. Coolers must be left in the cafeteria.

Eastern Maine Class B Championship

Time, site: Medomak Valley, Waldoboro; 8 a.m. weigh-in, wrestling begins 9:30-10 a.m.

Teams competing: Belfast, Camden Hills, Caribou, Ellsworth, Hermon, Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield, Medomak Valley, Mount Desert Island, Mount View of Thorndike, Old Town and Winslow

Last year’s team champion: Camden Hills

Teams to watch: Camden Hills, Belfast

Outlook: Camden Hills is the odds-on favorite to win the team title. The Windjammers are the three-time defending state champions and will be going for their ninth straight EM championship. Camden Hills scored 194 points at last week’s Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference championship. The Windjammers Jake Rollins won the 103-pound state title last year. He is this year’s KVAC champ at 112 pounds. Teammate Chris Remsen won last year’s state title at 135 and has moved up to 140 this year. Winslow’s Chris Desrosiers is the favorite at 215.

Notes: Doors open to the public at 8 a.m. Full concession in the gym. Breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria. Team coolers must be left in the cafeteria. No personal coolers.

Eastern Maine Class C Championship

Time, site: Dexter High School, 8 a.m. weigh-in, wrestling begins following seed meeting (9:30-10 a.m.).

Teams competing: Bucksport, Calais, Dexter, Fort Kent, Foxcroft, George Stevens of Blue Hill, John Bapst of Bangor, Madawaska, Mattanawcook of Lincoln, Penobscot Valley of Howland, Shead of Eastport and Woodland

Last year’s team champion: Dexter

Teams to watch: Bucksport, Dexter, Foxcroft, Penobscot Valley

Outlook: Foxcroft eked out a two-point win over Bucksport in last week’s Penobscot Valley Championship. But 21 of the 56 wrestlers who earned points for their teams by reaching the championship or consolation finals will be wrestling at the EM A or B championships and won’t be in Dexter, leaving a lot of a team points available. Several wrestlers who should benefit from it being a Class C-only meet include Penobscot Valley’s Doug Dyer at 275 pounds and Bucksport’s Adam Tweedie at 152. Both lost in the PVC championship round to Class A wrestlers.

Notes: Doors open to public at 8 a.m. Full concession, breakfast, lunch. Team coolers in the cafeteria.
