FINDLAY, Ohio – Mansfield University freshman Adam Staier, a graduate of Mt. Blue High School in Farmington, came from behind to beat University of Rio Grande senior Matt Boyles in the 3,000-meter racewalk with a record time of 12:07.40. Staier walked against the clock rather than front-runners Boyles and Jim Robinson of the University of Rio Grande. His strategy worked as he passed Robinson and later Boyles with less than two laps remaining.
Staier’s time tops Olympic racewalker Gary Morgan’s old mark of 12:31.91 set in 2000.
