AUGUSTA – For the third consecutive year, Maine fourth-graders have the opportunity to design a real road sign to encourage adults to drive more carefully in work zones. In recognition of Work Zone Safety Awareness Week, April 7-11, the Maine Department of Transportation is conducting its third annual Backseat Driver Program.
The program includes fourth-grade curricula designed to raise awareness about work zone safety. Through this program, pupils can learn about Maine’s roads, traffic signs and work zone safety and have the opportunity to win a $1,000 field trip for their class.
