Maine dishes

Maybe your mother’s baked beans have long been a church supper staple. Or your dad’s lobster stew is the envy of the neighborhood. If so, Maine PBS wants the recipe for its upcoming series, “What’s for Suppah? Beans, Blueberries and Beyond.” Hosted by Bangor chef Cheryl Wixson, along with humorist Tim Sample, the show will focus on the harvesting of food, its preparation and presentation, as well as the meshing of longtime traditions and modern-day practices. Send recipes for nutritious and affordable meals, along with the history behind them, to: What’s for Suppah? Recipes, Maine PBS, 65 Texas Ave., Bangor, ME 04401.

Chocolate for change

Indulge your sweet tooth without guilt – it’s for a great cause. The 10th annual Chocolate Feast and Silent Auction will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at The White Birches Restaurant in Ellsworth. Proceeds from the event’s $5 admission charge will benefit The Next Step Domestic Violence Project of Hancock County, which offers a 24-hour hot line, outreach programs, court advocacy and support groups for people affected by domestic violence. Items donated by local businesses and artisans will be up for bid, and a variety of chocolate desserts will be served. For more information or to make a donation, call The Next Step at 667-0176.
