Kochis, Richter power Witches to 14th victory

BREWER – Josh Kochis and Jeremiah Richter each had two goals and Kochis also dished out an assist as the Brewer High School Witches upended Hampden Academy 6-2 in a schoolboy hockey game at the T.J. Ryan Center Thursday night.

Brewer is now 14-2 while Hampden fell to 12-3.

Wally Tardiff had a goal and an assist and Robbie Hayes had two assists. Will Prescott had the other goal and Matt Grimes had an assist. In addition to making 19 saves, Spencer Dunbar had an assist.

Adam Standley tallied a pair of unassisted goals for the Broncos. Garrett Macgowan recorded 25 saves on 31 shots.

Boys basketball

Lubec 47, Highview Chr. 42

At Bangor’s Eastern Maine Technical College, Dylan Lord scored seven of his 15 points in the third quarter as Lubec outscored Highview Christian of Charleston 16-4 to erase a seven-point halftime deficit.

Jordan Hall and Brian Scoville had 11 points apiece for the winners.

Devan Philbrick pumped in a game-high 25 points for Highview Christian and Nick Waite added eight.

At Greenville, Margo Malloy’s layup with 25 seconds left in the second overtime gave Valley of Bingham the lead for good and Kristin Baker added a free throw 13 seconds later.

Jessica Fitzmaurice scored 14 of her team-high 19 points in the second half as Valley erased an 11-point halftime deficit.

Melanie Vieniere had 15 points for the winners. Krystal Rollins and Malloy chipped in with 11 apiece.

Freshman Beth Bartley poured in a career-high 34 points for Greenville and she also gathered in 16 rebounds. Sarah Hanson had nine points.
