United Way reaches $2.65M campaign goal

BANGOR – United Way of Eastern Maine announced success in reaching its campaign goal of $2.65 million at its campaign finale Jan. 29 at the University of Maine Art Museum.

“We have been amazed with the community support this year, and particularly over the past several weeks as we have asked the community to help us reach our goal,” said Bill Lucy, United Way campaign chairman and executive vice president of Merrill Bank.

He described the finale as “a celebration of what can be accomplished when the community comes together. Over 12,000 donors at more than 400 workplaces gave to United Way this year.” He presented Campaign Chair’s awards to: UBS PaineWebber, Sargent & Sargent, Darlings’, H.E. Sargent and Hannaford Brothers. Penquis CAP received the Best United Way Agency award. The Most Improved Campaign award went to James W. Sewall Co.; the Best New Campaign to Larkin Enterprises; Campaign Leader Award to Eastern Maine Healthcare. Addy Dubois of EMH was presented the Irene M. Gray Outstanding Campaign Volunteer award. The Pillar of the Community Award was given to N.H. Bragg.
