CASTINE – Clinton native Jed Johnson grabbed 15 rebounds and scored 14 points Sunday to become Maine Maritime Academy’s career rebounding and scoring leader with 1,405 points and 1,014 rebounds.
Johnson also led the Mariners to an 80-65 men’s basketball victory over Mount Ida College of Newton Centre, Mass., Sunday.
Johnson is the first MMA player to score more than 1,000 points and grab more than 1,000 rebounds in school history. He has had a double-double in 16 of 17 games.
The senior center broke the previous record of 1,405 points by Adam St. John (1982-85).
B.J. Dunlap of Skowhegan led the Mariners with eight 3-pointers and 27 points. Matt Clement, also of Skowhegan, scored 22 along with 11 rebounds.
Scott Chamberland scored 22 points to lead the Mustangs.

MMA wins two over weekend
At Castine Saturday, Julia Knights scored 22 points with 14 rebounds to help give the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners beat Wheelock 57-24.
MMA came back to beat Mount Ida on Sunday 84-77.
Erinne Magee netted nine points for Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday while Jenny Scott scored 12 points and had nine rebounds with six steals for Wheelock College.
On Sunday, Knights netted 23 points and grabbed another 14 rebounds in the win. Meghann Burnett added 21 points while Magee had 17.
Aurelia Eisenzoff led Mount Ida with 21 points.

Husson swept over weekend
Husson College dropped two games over the weekend as Lyndon State beat the Braves 75-73 on Sunday after the College of St. Joseph knocked off the Braves 71-59 on Saturday.
On Sunday, Jamie Rosso led the Lyndon State Hornets past Husson with 17 points at Lyndonville, Vt. Rachel Maxwell had 16 points, Sarah Gagnon added 11, and Nichole Arel scored 10 for the Hornets.
Sarah Davis scored 20 points, Holly Gracie 19, and Liz Boone of Brewer 18 to pace Husson.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Peter Fregoe scored two goals and Nolan Schaefer made 46 saves as Providence beat New Hampshire 5-2 on Sunday.
After a scoreless first period, the Friars (16-12-1, 9-9-1 Hockey East) took a 2-0 second-period lead with goals 12 seconds apart. Jonathan Goodwin scored the first at 12:14 and Fregoe made it 2-0 at 12:26.
New Hampshire (18-7-3, 12-5-1), which outshot Providence 48-26, made it 2-1 just 33 seconds into the third period when Lanny Gare scored on a power play. But the Friars took a 4-1 lead on goals by Fregoe at 6:45 and Stephen Wood at 10:33.
