BANGOR – Stephen Wong of Bangor helped his high school team capture the Penobscot Valley Conference chess championship in a tourney at the high school Saturday.

Wong compiled a record of 4-0 to tie for first place individual honors as the Rams totaled 15 points to edge Orono’s 141/2 in the team tourney. John Bapst of Bangor finished with 121/2, Old Town had six and Hermon four.

Orono’s Abe Ibrahem tied Wong for first at 4-0 while John Bapst’s Ray Solinger and Eoin O’Connor, Orono’s Ryan Tripp and Zening Chen, and Bangor’s Will Owens all tied for third as each earned three points.

John Bapst collected the regular season title.
