Haskell powers EMTC past Unity in playoff

BANGOR – China’s Jesse Haskell poured in a game-high 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Kris Douglas contributed 17 points and 14 rebounds to help the Eastern Maine Technical College Golden Eagles cruise to a 93-52 Yankee Conference basketball playoff win over Unity Tuesday night.

Daryl Watson of Orono chipped in with 11 points, 10 assists and four steals and Jamie Alley had 10 points.

Noah Schneider’s 20 points paced Unity.

At Alfond Arena in Orono, Stephanie Jones broke a scoreless tie 3:29 into the third period, helping lift the Wildcats to victory over the Black Bears.

Kristine Butt and Vicki Davis added goals later in the period for 22-5-2 New Hampshire. Jen Huggon posted her 12th shutout of the season, including her second against UMaine, while making 24 saves.

Lara Smart registered 17 saves for the 8-12-4 Bears.

At Farmington, Lydia Coverdale paced UMF with 18 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Desirae Haines came off the bench to chip in with 13 points and Megan Woodcock added 10.
