FORT FAIRFIELD – Dani Searles scored with 25 seconds remaining to give the No. 7 Fort Fairfield Tigers a 36-35 schoolgirl basketball victory over the No. 10 East Grand Vikings in Class D preliminary action Tuesday night.

The Tigers advanced to Monday’s 7:05 p.m. quarterfinal round at the Bangor Auditorium against the No. 2 Southern Arosotook Warriors of Dyer Brook.

Searles netted 12 points for the Tigers and Maranda Butler had 16 rebounds and five steals.

Marie Gilman scored 15 points for the Vikings of Danforth and Amanda Godley had 13 points.

Mindy Morneault added 14 points for the Warriors while Kristin Violette chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds.

Kasey Cleary and Anna Lenentine scored 10 points apiece for No. 9 Houlton.

Joe Flenner netted one goal for the Wildcats as Sam Shaw, Joe Collins, and Ryan Cyr each had one assist. Sean Daigle stopped seven of nine shots for 13-2 Presque Isle.

John Tuell and Tom Smyth each scored a goal for the Red Riots. Dylan Huckestein, Keith Hedrick, and Chad Sanborn all had one assist. Anthony Hegstrom made 29 saves on 34 shots for 6-12 Orono.

Stearns 3, Houlton/Hodg. 2 (OT)

At Houlton, Tyler Pelkey netted the game-winning goal off of a Shawn McBey assist at 3:03 into overtime to win it for Stearns of Millinocket.

Drew Summers and Ryan Bouchard each scored a goal for Stearns as Pelkey and Nick Simon each had an assist. Simon made 38 saves on 40 shots for 6-10 Stearns.

Ben Carton scored both of Houlton/Hodgdon’s goals as Mitch Hall, Tyler Hutchinson, and Ben Hendrickson all had an assist. Nic Joslyn stopped 32 of 35 shots for 13-6 Houlton/Hodgdon.
