During Winter Carnival, the University of Maine hopes to reclaim its record for the most people kissing at one time on Valentine’s Day at 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, in the Field House.

On Feb. 14, 1996, 1,420 people kissed at UMaine’s Alfond Arena, a record in the Guinness Book of World Records for four years.

Participants must be 16 or over and will kiss on the lips for 10 seconds. Ric Tyler from WLBZ-TV, Mike Elliott from KISS 94.5 and George Bragdon from the Bangor Daily News will be on hand to verify the count. The event is co-sponsored by KISS 94.5 and the American Heart Association.
