Neuropsychologist

Neuropsychology Service, P.A., 700 Mt. Hope Ave., Suite 480, has announced that Larissa A. Mead-Wescott, formerly of Maine Center for Integrated Rehabilitation, will join its practice March 1. Mead-Wescott, who has a doctorate, will provide neuro-psychological services to adults and children. For information, call 990-2580.

Volunteer lawyers

Attorney William Devoe has been selected to receive an award for service to the Volunteer Lawyers Project. Devoe, of Eaton Peabody, handled the most cases referred in 2002.

The Volunteer Lawyers Project has served Mainers in need of legal aid for 20 years, and annually recognizes outstanding participating attorneys from throughout the state.

Hotel excellence award

The Holiday Inn-Odlin Road has won Six Continents Hotels 2002 Quality Excellence Award, given only to hotels achieving distinction in all aspects of operations. Brett Stacey, general manager of the Holiday Inn-Odlin Road, accepted the award at the Six Continents Hotels 2002 Global Investors Conference in San Diego, Calif.

The Holiday Inn-Odlin Road was one of 260 properties selected from the company’s more than 3,300 hotels to receive the award. Requirements included receiving a high score in the 12-month Overall Satisfaction Index, a system designed for guests to evaluate Holiday Inn hotels and their performance, including product quality and customer service.

Small business workshop

The “Taxes and Your Small Business” workshop is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at the Penobscot County Extension Office, 307 Maine Ave., Bangor. The fee is $5.

The workshop will present an overview of various elements related to the tax aspects of operating a small home-based business. The business entities – sole proprietor, partnership and corporation – will be reviewed. Also covered will be record-keeping requirements for tax purposes, business income and deductions, and home business use.

The presenter will be Andrea Tupper, senior tax specialist of the Internal Revenue Service. To reserve a seat or to obtain information, call the extension office at 942-7396.

Free trade conference

Bangor Savings Bank’s G. Clifton Eames Learning Center, 203 Maine Ave., served as host for the Maine International Trade Center’s one-day free trade conference Feb. 5.

The conference included a full day with faculty from the Canadian-American Center at the University of Maine who took an in-depth, multidisciplinary look at the forces shaping free trade across the U.S.-Canada border.

Medical school affiliation

Vision Care of Maine announced its affiliation with the Tufts University School of Medicine, which will enable the center to add vitreoretinal specialty treatments.

Dr. Adam Rogers, assistant professor at Tufts University School of Medicine, will join the Vision Care staff this month. Rogers is the author of a book on ocular photodynamic therapy, a new treatment for macular degeneration. He has been co-author of peer-reviewed articles, presented papers at symposiums and wrote chapters in three books relating to the advanced treatments and management of retinal disease.

Rogers will see patients and oversee the treatment of all areas of retinal disease.

Driver safety award

Alan Riling, a delivery driver for United Parcel Service, was honored recently by the company for completing 15 years of driving without and accident. He provides delivery service in the Levant area.

“You must anticipate what each motorist might do and drive defensively,” said Riling. “I try always to remember the safe driving skills UPS taught me, and keep your eyes ahead of you, and expect the unexpected.”

Milford

New showroom, office

Keith Trembley Builder Inc., doing business as Paul Davis Restoration of Central Maine, has moved its office and is renovating for a new showroom that will be open to the public in early April.

The company is located at 9 County Road in the former Old Town Fuel building. This month the company is featured in the national magazines Professional Remodeler and Qualified Remodeler. Each magazine focused on the insurance and restoration side of the business.

Data services

Cianbro Data Services of Pittsfield has acquired Networks Northeast of Orono, a data cabling and services company.

A wholly owned subsidiary of Cianbro, Cianbro Data Services is celebrating its first anniversary in the construction services industry. Launched just over a year ago by members of Cianbro’s electrical and information technology teams, Cianbro Data Services is led by general manager Mike Dow.

“With a successful year under our belt,” Dow said, “we are excited about this acquisition. We welcome five new team members – John Comstock, Ross Comstock, Tom Allen, Ken Sibley and Jim Wadlington – to our Cianbro Data Services team. We have added a number of new products and services to our operation.”
