Griffin free throws pace Hodgdon

HODGDON – Jimmy Griffin nailed a pair of free throws with five seconds to play Wednesday night, lifting eighth-seeded Hodgdon to a 55-53 Eastern Maine Class B boys basketball preliminary victory over No. 9 Schenck of East Millinocket.

The Wolverines’ Tyler Thompson was fouled as time expired, but missed the front end of a one and one.

Griffin finished with 13 points and eight assists for Hodgdon. Ken Prescott led the attack with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Jeff Condon tallied 11.

Ryan Deschenes poured in 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Schenck. Tyler Thompson added 11.

Andrew Soucie collected 12 points to lead the No. 11 Vikings. Matt Nason and Josh Nadeau added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Eben Gilman chipped in with 12 points and Kaleb Violette grabbed 10 rebounds.

Mark Socoby paced Houlton with 22 points and Jordan Hill added 16.

Owen McCarthy paced the Cougars of Sherman Station with 19 points. Brian Sullivan netted 12.
