ORONO – The Boston University men and Northeastern women lead the America East Swimming and Diving Championships after the first day of the three-day event held at Stanley M. Wallace Pool on the University of Maine campus Friday.

The Boston University men finished day one with 238.5 points, followed by Binghamton (217), Stony Brook (194.5), New Hampshire (124), Maine (123), and Vermont (67).

The Northeastern women totaled 243.5 points. New Hampshire is second with 226.5, followed by Boston University (173.5), Binghamton with 156, Maine (115), Vermont (68) and Stony Brook (65.5).

The Terrier men tallied 62 points in the 1-meter diving final, with sophomore Victor Pagula, last year’s Most Outstanding Diver, leading four BU divers in the top six, repeating as champion with a score of 313.35. BU also had multiple scorers in the 500-yard freestyle, 50 free and the 200 individual medley.

Binghamton posted champions in the 200 IM (Chris McGuire, 1 minute, 52.63 seconds), the 500 freestyle (Magnus Lofgren, 4:39.15), and the 400 medley relay (Wade Rimbach, Robert Kaczynski, Wael Dowdiar, and Chris McGuire, 3:29.92).

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Stony Brook foursome of James Payne, Roger Pugh, Dan Berzansky and Ted Freeborn finished first with a time of 1:25.53. New Hampshire junior Dan Brittan won the 50 free in 21:44.

Northeastern sophomore Adela Govozdea won the 3-meter diving championships with a total of 497.20 points. Four other Huskies placed in the top 16 to earn a total of 48 points.
