BIDDEFORD – The Biddeford High School gymnastics team swept all four individual events to take the state gymnastics championship Saturday.
It was the Tigers’ first title since 1979 when they won the Class A crown. Classes A and B have been combined since 1994.
Skowhegan, the defending state champ, finished in second place. The Indians were second on the vault, uneven parallel bars, balance beam and floor exercise.
Biddeford scored a 168.65 to hold off Skowhegan’s 156.25.
Kennebunk was third with a score of 145.65. Noble of Berwick finished in fourth place with a 142.95. Belfast was fifth (132.75), Waterville took sixth (129.5), Medomak Valley of Waldoboro finished seventh (121.65) and Edward Little of Auburn was eighth (104.975).
Rosie Guerin of Biddeford was the all-around winner. She posted a 36.5 and was first in the vault and floor events, second on the bars and third on the beam.
Carlee Evans led Skowhegan with a fourth in the all-around (35.35). She was second on the beam, third on the floor and took fifth on both the vault and bars.
Delani Evans, Jade Tran, Jo Burdet, Chelsea Beaulieu, Alex Baiko and Ashlee Nickerson also scored for the Indians. Nickerson was 17th in the all-around competition and Delani Evans was 20th.
Shannon Miller was the top finisher for Belfast. Miller was 21st in the all-around.
Camden Hills competitors Hannah Rebeck and Laura MacKinnon were sixth and eighth, respectively, in the all-around.
