A group of intoxicated teenagers attempted to get into the Calvary Chapel-Bangor Christian Class D Tournament basketball game Monday night at the Bangor Auditorium.

According to Bangor police Sgt. Jim Owens, several apparently intoxicated teens had come through the ticket aisle in the auditorium lobby. The teens were told to go back and return their tickets, Owens said, when one of them ran, vaulted over the stairwell railing, and ran down to the locker rooms.

The officers had to hold down one of the youths who tried to bite them, Owens said. The officers eventually persuaded the teens to leave although one of them didn’t seem to understand why.

He returned a few minutes later, saying he was waiting for a ride from his mother. When asked what had just happened, he said, “A lot of my friends just got into a lot of trouble.” The police then ordered him off the property and chased him out.

University of Maine public safety officers charged two students with possession of marijuana Sunday night.

The officers received a call at 11:40 p.m. that marijuana smoke could be smelled in Knox Hall, according to the police report. When they arrived at the dorm, they followed the smell to a room where they found two students with a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The report noted the students were summoned for possession.

The latest in a series of book bag thefts occurred Monday at John Bapst Memorial High School.

Justin Irish, 18, of Glenburn called Bangor police in the afternoon, saying he had left his bag in a hallway and it was gone when he returned. According to Lt. Jeff Millard, a number of similar thefts have been reported in the last several weeks.

The bag was worth $65 and contained a graphing calculator worth $140 and textbooks worth $400. There are no suspects in the thefts at this point.
