The Moosehead Historical Society & Museum is making an offer you can’t refuse.

“We want you to tell us where to go!” wrote Executive Director Dr. Everett Parker.

And he means it.

The MHSM annually sponsors bus trips throughout England and eastern Canada and this year is planning to expand its schedule to accommodate more of you by visiting “additional locations,” he wrote.

“Overnight trips are being considered” along with day trips, he added.

However, to help develop an itinerary that will appeal to as many people as possible, the MHSM needs your input.

“In particular,” Parker wrote, “we want to hear from folks who have traveled with us, in the past six years, with their ideas of where they would like to go this spring, summer and fall.”

The new brochure, which will be available soon, will include not only already scheduled trips but also information about individual excursions that will be scheduled according to your suggestions.

To offer your ideas, to receive a free trip brochure or more information about the organization, visit the MHSM office at 444 Pritham Ave., Greenville, write MHSM, P.O. Box 1116, Greenville 04441-1116, or call 695-2909.

From Manna Ministries director Bill Rae and his staff comes this word.

Due to the cold weather, Manna “has seen a large increase” in the need for food and warm socks.

Manna reports that people are having to forego paying heating bills to keep themselves fed.

Manna is requesting donations of warm socks, baked beans, tomato sauce, all varieties of pasta, macaroni and cheese, soup and 8-inch Styrofoam plates.

If you can donate any of these items, you are asked to bring them between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to Manna at 180 Center St. in Bangor.

Manna staff said, “We do not ask unless there is a real, immediate need.”

You are invited to enter your child in the “Beautiful Baby Contest” now through Saturday, March 15, at Wal-Mart in Lincoln.

Proceeds will benefit people in the area who receive support from the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Photographs will be displayed on the “Baby Board,” and $1 entitles you to one vote for the most beautiful baby.

Parents will receive a ballot kit to recruit votes from family, friends, neighbors and co-workers, with the baby receiving the most votes winning the contest. The results will be announced Wednesday, March 19. For information, visit the Lincoln Wal-Mart or call MDA at 878-3749.

Friends and acquaintances of Marguerite French of Monson are invited to send greetings to her upon the occasion of her 98th birthday, which is Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Born and raised in Abbot, she moved to Monson when she married Elwin French. The couple owned the Monson Water District, and she ran a boarding home for a number of years. Elwin died in 1979 and Marguerite moved to Guilford to be closer to her grandson and his wife, James and Sherri French, and returned recently to Monson.

In excellent health, Marguerite takes no medications and attends church, gets her hair done and shops for her own groceries each week.

“She’s a fully functional lady who takes care of herself,” Sherri French said with pride.

You can send birthday greetings to Marguerite French, 84 Tenney Hill Road, Lake Hebron Apt. 6, Monson 04464.

Patients receiving chemotherapy at the Oncology Clinic at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital will be a bit more comfortable now, thanks to members of the Hancock County Quilt Guild of Ellsworth.

Guild member Joan Henry presented the clinic four lap quilts made by Guild members to help keep patients warm during treatment.
