A Pepsi truck slid off the road in Hermon at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

The driver said he had been driving up Miller Hill, according to Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy Donnie Russell, when the truck slid into the left lane, back across the right lane and off the shoulder. Russell said it barely missed a utility pole.

Lt. Keith Moore of the Hermon Fire Department said the truck slid all the way down the bank on its wheels, and would have rolled over at the bottom if it hadn’t hit a tree trunk. Moore estimated the slide was at least 20 feet.

“He was fortunate he walked away from it without even a bump,” Deputy Russell said of the driver, who didn’t comment. Russell blamed the fine, powdery texture of the snow: “Once it fills up the grooves on your tires, that’s it.”

Tuesday’s snowfall also contributed to a collision in Bangor.

Daniel Tremble, 38, of Bangor was driving his Jeep on Hammond Street about 10:45 a.m. when Anna Fiori, 53, also of Bangor pulled her pickup truck in front of him, according to the police report.

Fiori had been at the stop sign on Fourteenth Street and said she didn’t see the Jeep coming. According to the report, the falling snow made it harder to see.

Tremble complained of head pain after the accident, the report said. Fiori was reportedly unhurt.
