Center on Aging offers professional courses

ORONO – The University of Maine’s Center on Aging will present its second Professional Excellence in Geriatrics Series next month.

The continuing education program for professional service providers who work with older adults will be held at locations throughout the state.

The series will present current standards and practices in nursing, social work, psychology and other fields. They are based on current research findings and tested in the leading hospitals and community programs that serve older adults.

Sessions will be led by university faculty and local professionals.

Until Feb. 26, registration is $25 per session, $45 per day or $150 for all 10 sessions. Sessions run 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m. Local sessions will be held Tuesday, March 18, at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor:

. “Perspectives on Implementing Advance Directives,” Jane Skelton, Skelton Law Offices LLC; Barbara Steller, executive director Dirigo Pines; Elaine Peresluha, minister, Unitarian Universalist Church; Dr. Elizabeth Weiss.

. “Pharmacotherapy in the Elderly,” Susan Trzop-Haiden; Marybeth Hayman, Pharmacy Department, EMMC.

The sessions are available via interactive television to members of the Eastern Maine Healthcare System and the Northern New England Telemedicine System.
