15TH AMERICA EAST TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Time, site: noon, Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday; Boston University Track and Tennis Center

Teams competing: Albany, Binghamton, Boston University, University of Hartford, Maine, New Hampshire, Northeastern University, Stony Brook, Vermont

Last’s season champion: B.U. men and B.U. women

Teams/players to watch: Men – BU: Jochen Dieckfoss (mile, 3,000), Albany: Dustin Wilson (200, 55 hurdles); Northeastern: Vincent Tortorella (weight throw); Women – Maine: Viotoria Rybalko (long jump, triple jump), Vermont: Kristal Kostiew (shot put, weight throw); Northeastern: Ebony Jack (55), Ahndraea Allen (200)

Outlook: The BU Terriers are a favorite to win their fourth straight men’s conference title, while the BU women have won the championship three of the last four years. Maine, UNH, Albany and Northeastern are the BU men’s primary competitors.

Notes: Maine’s young squads have had some success of late as Nolan Tobey of South China won both the mile and 3,000 at a dual meet in Orono two weeks ago after winning the Murray Keatinge Invitational cross country men’s title last fall. The women’s home-grown talent includes Katie Souviney of Winslow in the hurdles, Brewer’s Heather Jovanelli in the 1,000, and Newport’s Katie Page in the shot put.
