Fletcher paces Braves past Fisher, Lyndon

BANGOR – Randy Fletcher scored 40 points to lead Husson College to a pair of men’s basketball victories at Newman Gymnasium over the weekend.

Fletcher scored 18 points to pace Husson to an 83-66 win over Fisher College of Boston on Saturday, then scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Braves defeated Lyndon State 90-77 on Sunday.

In Saturday’s game, Dwayne Ailey added 17 points, while Ryan Rivera and Andrius Zeikus scored 11 points apiece. Jason Harvey chipped in with 10 points.

Steven Perry led the effort for Fisher of Boston with 20 points, Tony Jefferson contributed 16, and Carmine Charles helped out with 11.

In Sunday’s game, Ailey had 19 points and five assists, while Rivera and Phil White had 15 points apiece for Husson.

Greg Rose led Lyndon State of Lyndonville, Vt., with 16 points. Shawn Burroughts scored 12 points, and Nick Baskwill added 11.

At Machias, Gary Dussard scored a total of 44 points over the weekend for the Clippers.

UM-Machias defeated Lyndon State of Lyndonville, Vt., 87-76 Saturday, and Fisher College of Boston downed UMM 83-73 Sunday.

In Saturday’s game, Albert Whittaker netted 23 points for University of Maine-Machias and Dussard had 21. Chujor Chujor added 19 points.

David Andrus scored 17 points for Lyndon State. Chris Brown had 13 points and Kevin Trask netted 10.

In Sunday’s game, Carmine Charles scored 23 points for Fisher College and Tony Jefferson added 19. Steve Perry netted 13 points and Kessen Green had 10.

Women’s hockey

Maine splits weekend games

The Maine women’s hockey team split a pair of games this weekend, defeating Boston College 4-0 on Saturday and falling 2-1 to Providence on Sunday.

In Saturday’s game, Karen Droog scored two goals to power Maine.

Maine’s Jarin Sjogren scored a goal with assists from Raffi Wolf and Meagan Aarts, while Rebecca Culver and Laura Maddin picked up the assists on a goal by Andrea Steranko. Nicole Munro recorded two assists and Naomi Smethurst had one, and Dawn Froat stopped 12 of 12 shots.

Lisa Davis made 17 saves on 21 shots for 12-15-3 Boston College.

In Sunday’s game, Hilary Greaves scored the game-winner for Providence in the second period with assists from Ashley Payton and Gretchen Gottwald.

Jenn Busch tied the game for 21-6-6 Providence with the assists going to Meredith Roth and Kelli Halcisak. Jana Bugden made 14 saves.

Tristan Desmet scored for Maine off a pass from Andrea Steranko, and Lara Smart made 30 saves for the 10-14-4 Bears.
