The Valley of Bingham and Winthrop boys basketball teams won Western Maine tournament titles Saturday at the Augusta Civic Center while the Waynflete of Portland and Dirigo of Dixfield girls teams also earned championships.
Top-seeded Valley beat No. 2 Elan of Poland Spring 59-53 and will be going for their sixth-straight Class D state championship at approximately 9:30 p.m. Thursday when they meet Bangor Christian for a rematch of last season’s state game at the Bangor Auditorium.
That will be preceded by the girls championship game at 7:35 involving between number two seeded Waynflete and Woodland. Waynflete knocked off the fourth-seeded Valley girls 46-39.
The number-one ranked Dirigo girls, a 76-39 winner over second-seeded Boothbay, will meet Dexter for the Class C title on Friday at 7:35 p.m. also at the Bangor Auditorium.
Top ranked Winthrop edged the third-seed, Hyde of Bath, 57-55 to earn the right to play George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill for the Class C boys championship following the girls game.

At the Augusta Civic Center, Dustin Harrington scored 22 points to push No. 1 Winthrop past No. 3 Hyde of Bath to claim the Western Maine Class C championship.
Joel Weisberger netted 10 points for Winthrop and Chad Garwood had eight.
Saliym Wilson scored 16 points for Hyde and Junior Bernal had 14. Daniel Case scored 13 points and Lionel Epstein added 12.

Mark Gaudet netted 15 points for the top-ranked Cavaliers. Travis Hovey added 12 points for Valley and Lucas Melcher had 10.
Zachery Kinzer scored 13 points for No. 2 Elan of Pownal. Marvin Reels netted 11 points and Patrick Munsen scored 10.
