EMTC earns split of weekend UConn women still unanimous as No. 1

AUBURN -Eastern Maine Technical College split a pair of weekend women’s basketball games at the Maine Small College Conference tourney, losing Saturday to Southern Maine Tech of South Portland, 69-33, and edging Northern Maine Tech of Presque Isle, 65-61 on Sunday.

On Saturday, Jess Langella tossed in 24 points to spark Southern Maine Tech.

Lisa Miller contributed 14 points for the winners, and Bethany Messer hauled down 16 rebounds. Ashley Hichborn led EMTC of Bangor with 17.

On Sunday, All-Tourney selection and All-Conference selection Ronnie Haverlock chalked up 25 points and 13 rebounds to spark Eastern Maine Tech.

Natalie Foster, who was also named to the all-conference squad, tallied 18 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Jessica Trundy dished out 14 assists and had six steals, and Hichborn notched 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Becky Chamberlain led the Falcons with 21 points, and Kristin Bird registered 19. Tara Brown had 11 points to go with 16 rebounds.
