PRESQUE ISLE – A Presque Isle man who was assaulted Saturday with a baseball bat remained in critical condition Monday at a Bangor hospital.

Darryl Currier, 28, was flown on Saturday to Eastern Maine Medical Center after first being treated at The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle for potentially life-threatening injuries.

Police on Monday were still conducting interviews regarding the incident, according to Detective Sgt. John Cote of the Maine State Police.

Cote said that both the Aroostook County District Attorney’s Office and the state Attorney General’s Office were involved in the investigation. What happens to Currier will determine which agency will prosecute the case.

No arrests had been made as of Monday.

Currier was hit in the head with the bat at a home on Route 163 in Mapleton where he and three other people went after two previous fights that began at around 2 a.m. at an apartment on Roberts Street in Presque Isle.

As many as seven people were involved in the incident. Some of those people suffered minor injuries, and one was treated for lacerations at the Presque Isle hospital.
