The No. 7 Hampden Academy Broncos edged the No. 10 Lawrence Bulldogs of Fairfield 42-40 in an Eastern Maine Class A girls basketball prelim Tuesday night.
With the win, the Broncos advanced to Saturday’s 9:35 a.m. quarterfinal round at the Bangor Auditorium against the No. 2 Nokomis Warriors of Newport.
The No. 4 Presque Isle Wildcats also advanced to a quarterfinal showdown with the No. 5 Mount Ararat Eagles of Topsham after both teams notched prelim wins.
The Wildcats tamed the No. 13 Mt. Blue Cougars of Farmington 62-28 and the Eagles eliminated the No. 12 Bangor Rams 66-41.
Presque Isle will now battle Mount Ararat at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the Bangor Auditorium.
In other prelim action, No. 8 Messalonskee of Oakland defeated No. 9 Old Town 73-58 and No. 11 Oxford Hills of South Paris upset No. 6 Gardiner 71-68 in overtime.
Messalonskee advanced to a 2:05 p.m. quarterfinal against No. 1 Cony of Augusta.
Oxford Hills advanced to Friday’s quarterfinal round against No. 3 Skowhegan at 3:35 p.m. at the Bangor Auditorium.

At Presque Isle, the Wildcats outscored the Cougars 25-9 in the second half en route to an EM Class A preliminary win.
Billi Blanchard scored her 1,000th career point in a 22-point effort for Presque Isle. She also had 10 rebounds. Melissa DeMerchant notched 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Kylan Smith added 10 points.
Kim Drosik led Mt. Blue of Farmington with 11.

Danielle McCarthy tossed in 16 points for the winners, and Betsy French scored 12 points and dished out eight assists.
Kristi Mitchell’s 19 points led Old Town. Renee Thibodeau chipped in with 11, and Leona Mitchell 10.
