Veazie police arrested a woman after she reportedly elbowed a man in the stomach Monday night.

Officers Ryan Welch and Todd Jamison responded to the call at 10:15 p.m. and met a man at a pay phone. The man said he had had a verbal argument with a friend, Kristen Mumme, 28, at her Greystone Trailer Park residence and when he tried to leave, she elbowed him.

The man said he had an off-and-on relationship with Mumme. He said he wanted the officers to speak to her but would prefer they not arrest her.

When police arrived at Mumme’s residence, Mumme told police she could not believe they were there but admitted to having struck her friend in the stomach, Welch said.

After consulting with Cpl. John Dall, the officers arrested Mumme and charged her with domestic assault. Mumme allegedly said she did not think that was necessary.

On the way to the Penobscot County Jail, Welch informed the complainant that Mumme was being arrested as required by law because there was a visible sign of assault. The man said he thought that might happen.

Mumme was released on bail. Welch said she is not permitted to possess alcohol, drugs or dangerous weapons, or visit T.J. Maxx ‘n More, where the victim works. Her court date is March 7.

A Bangor man was arrested after he allegedly threatened to kill a woman at a group home in Bangor on Monday afternoon.

Officer Brandon Vafiades received the call at 4 p.m. and went to the facility. A woman working at the home said she had been in a meeting with Nathaniel Turlo, 20, when Turlo received a phone call and allegedly told her, “If you listen in on my phone call, I will kill you.” The woman told Vafiades that Turlo had seemed serious.

Another employee at the home also heard the threat.

Turlo admitted to Officer Kevin MacLaren that he had made the threat and said he was sorry.

After learning that Turlo was on probation, MacLaren called Turlo’s probation officer, who told the officers to arrest him, Vafiades said.

Vafiades arrested Turlo for criminal threatening and violation of probation and took him to the Penobscot County Jail.

Police arrested a man accused of shoplifting at the Bangor Mall on Monday afternoon.

Officer Edward Mercier went to the Payless shoe store at 4:37 p.m. in response to a call that there was a shoplifter in custody there.

The store associate said he had seen Douglas Starbird, 20, try on some sneakers and leave the store in the direction of J.C. Penney, Mercier said. The associate found an old pair of sneakers in a shoebox where Starbird had tried on the new ones, Mercier said.

The store associate stopped Starbird at J.C. Penney and brought him back to Payless. Starbird admitted to Mercier that the shoes in the box were his own, Mercier said.

After Starbird gave back the new sneakers and put on his old pair, Mercier arrested him for theft.

At the Penobscot County Jail, Mercier learned that Starbird was on bail and added a count of violation of bail to his theft charge.
