The top seeds had little trouble advancing out of the quarterfinal round of the Sunrise Conference tournament as both the Husson College men and University of Maine-Farmington women won blowouts.

In men’s basketball action, No. 1 Husson dropped No. 8 UM-Presque Isle 74-45 and No. 5 Lyndon State edged No. 4 UM-Farmington 69-66 to set up a 7 p.m. semifinal matchup Sunday at the Augusta Civic Center. The other semifinal will take place at 3 p.m.

In women’s action, No. 1 UMF drubbed No. 8 UM-Fort Kent 85-34 while No. 7 Thomas upset second seed UM-Machias 61-55. UMF will take on No. 5 Husson at 5 p.m. Sunday. The 10-16 Braves defeated No. 4 Lyndon State 59-54. Thomas will meet No. 3 College of St. Joseph (Vt.), an 81-70 winner over UM-Presque Isle, at 1 p.m. Sunday in Augusta.

Lyndon State 69, UMF 66

At Farmington, Chris Brown scored 25 points as No. 5 Lyndon State held off No. 4 UMaine-Farmington in Sunrise Conference quarterfinal action.

Mike Ward led the Beavers with 21 points and Bobby Deetjen chipped in with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Travis Magnusson had six assists.

Husson 74, UM-Presque Isle 45

At Newman Gym in Bangor, freshman Jason Harvey of Bucksport hit eight of 10 shots overall and five of seven from 3-point range to score a game-high 21 points and lead top seed Husson College past No. 8 University of Maine-Presque Isle in the Sunrise Conference quarterfinals.

The regular season Sunrise champs, ranked 24th nationally in NAIA Division II, move on to Sunday’s semifinal round.

Randy Fletcher scored 11 and Phil White led the Braves with six rebounds. Harvey also had four assists and three steals.

Vjeko Jadric led the UMPI Owls with 17 points and Dan Emerson scored 12.

At Farmington, Jocelyn Sawyer netted 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help lead No. 1 seeded UM-Farmington past No. 8 UM-Fort Kent in a quarterfinal game.

Hannah Socoby contributed with 13 points while Kate LaHaye scored 11 and Cheryl Kempton had 10. Molly Bean had 10 rebounds to go with her five points.

Kpy Gervais led the scoring for Fort Kent with eight points while Jessica Noyes chipped in with seven points, six rebounds and two assists.
