SOLON – An accident that killed a Solon man when his pickup truck hit a guard rail and flipped over a bridge on Route 201 in Solon may have gone unnoticed for several hours Thursday.
Somerset County Sheriff’s Deputy Kris McKenna said that damage to the guard rail wasn’t easily visible by passing motorists and that the accident was discovered in the late afternoon by a pedestrian, hours after motorist Walter J. Buller, 67, was seen in neighboring Skowhegan.
Buller was seen in Skowhegan about 1 p.m., but his body and pickup truck 30 feet below the bridge were not spotted until about 5:25 p.m. Buller was pronounced dead on the scene.
McKenna said that Buller was ejected from the truck and was found a distance from the 1995 red Ford F-150 pickup truck he was driving. There were no skid marks on the road above, according to McKenna.
Anyone who may have seen Buller before the accident or who may have seen anything related to the accident can contact authorities at 1-800-452-1933.
