WASHINGTON – The National Council of La Raza, the largest national Hispanic-constituency-based organization in the United States, tonight will present U.S. Sen. Olympia J. Snowe of Maine with its highest honor, “The Capital Award,” for her commitment to improving the well-being of children.
Specifically, Snowe is being honored for her sponsorship of legislation to establish a partially refundable child tax credit as part of the 2002 tax bill and her efforts to improve welfare reform to better help low-income families move from welfare to work.
NCLR is a private nonprofit established in 1968 to reduce poverty and discrimination and improve life for Hispanic Americans.
