Deployments
CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Anthony Gathright, son of Daisy Woodman of Winterport, and Marine Corps Cpl. James Smith, son of Patricia Smith and James Smith of Brewer, are in their fifth month of deployment while assigned to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit based in Camp Lejeune.
Gathright and Smith are two of more than 4,000 Atlantic Fleet sailors and Marines serving aboard the ships of the USS Nassau Amphibious Group. Part of their unit is providing security for the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa.
Basic training
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Andrew Drew has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base. A graduate of John Bapst Memorial High School, he is the son of Bonnie Drew of Holden.
Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Wade Turmel has graduated from basic military training at Lackland. He is the son of Doris Audet of Jackman and the brother of Dominic Turmel of Bangor.
Advanced training
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Army Pfc. Leigh Smith has graduated from the heavy-wheeled vehicle mechanic advanced individual training course at Fort Jackson. A 2001 graduate of Hermon High School, Smith is the daughter of Louanne and Duane Smith of Carmel.
