FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Abbi Darling’s three-run double and Cynthia Dehm’s two-run single in the second inning Friday led Maine Maritime Academy of Castine to a 7-5 softball victory over Neumann College and a split of MMA’s two-game set. The Mariners lost their opening game of the day 7-4 to Husson College of Bangor.
In the Mariners win over Neumann, Elise Bishop added a double and two singles and had three RBIs for Maine Maritime. Jackie McKenney added two singles, and Spear tossed a three-hitter for the Mariners.
Dena Culbertson led Neumann of Aston, Pa., with an RBI single.
In the opener against Husson, RBI singles by Nicole Duplissa, Kerri Tuck, Wendy Butler, and Kate Farnsworth highlighted a six-run sixth inning carried Husson of Bangor to the win.
Farnsworth finished with a pair of singles for Husson, and Duplissa struck out five and walked six in picking up the win.
Darling topped Maine Maritime with a double and single, and Janice Spear struck out three and walked five.

Husson earns split
At Lake Wales, Fla., Billy Kane hit a clutch two-run double in the sixth inning to give Husson the lead and the Braves held off Evangel College for a 12-10 lead. Earlier in the day the Braves had dropped an 18-10 decision to Trinity College.
Jason Folsom hit a homerun while knocking in three runs for Husson and Kyle Matthew nailed a three-run homer.
Frank Tristen had two hits including a homerun for Evangel and Brandon Whitaker had three hits with three RBI.
In the opener against Trinity, Steven Clock drove in six runs to lead Trinity.
Clock had a home run and a double while Ken Reagan was 3-5 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs.
Josh Ferguson, Shawn Henderson, Tony Laprino and Jason Folsom homered for Husson of Bangor. Ferguson also had a double while Henderson added a single.

At Lake Wales, Fla., Thursday night, Brian Bretzer recorded 11 strikeouts and pitched a three-hitter as Warner Southern rolled.
Cesar Yetez hit two home runs and had three RBIs for the winner.
Tony Creek led the Braves of Bangor with a double.
