CASCO – A Casco teenager died Saturday of injuries suffered the day before in a snowmobile crash off Route 121, the Maine Warden Service said.
Christopher Dion, 17, died at Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was being treated for head injuries, said Steve Allarie, the district warden who investigated the crash.
Dion was with a group of riders when he intentionally left the trail before hitting an embankment, Allarie said.
The sled went airborne before the crash, according to Allarie, who said speed was a factor. No other injuries were reported. Dion was a student at Lake Region High School in Naples.
Maine already has had a record number of snowmobile deaths this winter, and Dion’s death raises the total to 15.
