Three finalists named for Travis Roy Award

Hockey forwards Nate Hart of Waterville High School and Jay Morgan of Portland and goalie Ryan Shelley of Cheverus of Portland have been named finalists for the eighth Travis Roy Award.

The award is given to a senior Class A hockey player who best exhibits the attributes of athleticism, academic perfor-mance, and community service. The winner will be announced at the high school hockey all-state banquet at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Waterville Elks Club.

The Hart name is a familiar one in regard to the Roy award as Nate’s brother Josh was a 2002 finalist (Josh Benson of Edward Little in Auburn was the winner) and his cousin Chad won it in ’99.

Roy was a former hockey standout at Yarmouth High School who was paralyzed 11 seconds into his first shift in his first college hockey game for Boston College.

Banquet tickets are $25 per person. For more information, call Norm Gagne at 877-0966.
