SANFORD – Developers of an Indian casino may build an access road from the Maine Turnpike in Wells to a proposed site near the Sanford Regional Airport, project manager Erin Lehane said. The route would follow either an upgraded Route 109, which runs seven miles from turnpike Exit 2, or via a dedicated spur off the turnpike that would come out near Cyro Industries on Route 109.
The prospect of an access road follows reports last week that the Passamaquoddy and Penobscot tribes would soon secure options on land near the airport for the $650 million project.
Some residents expressed fears that traffic to the casino would lead to backups and delays.
