BREWER – The Brewer tax office will open two hours later than normal Monday, March 17, to accommodate staff who are moving into newly renovated space at City Hall.
Finance Director Karen McVeigh said the tax office will open at 11 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. March 17. Hours in the tax office will revert to normal Tuesday, March 18. Those hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The tax office is under the management umbrella of the city’s finance department. A total of nine staff members work in both offices.
Located in the basement of City Hall, the tax office will move about 15 feet away from its current space. A new counter has been installed and surroundings upgraded for Anna Thompson, city tax collector, and two other staff members who work in the tax office and for the public.
The renovations began last December and are the first part of a two-phase project. The next, and final, phase is to renovate the nearby finance department, also located on the lower floor of City Hall. Currently, six staff members, including McVeigh, have moved out of City Hall and have taken up temporary office space in the city solicitor’s office at 120 North Main St. until renovations are completed, hopefully by April, according to McVeigh.
