CAPE CORAL, Fla. – The University of Maine softball team picked up a pair of wins Monday, blanking Lafayette 6-0 in the first game and edging Yale 3-2 in eight innings in the nightcap.
In the first game, Sarah Bennis earned the win, striking out seven for the Bears.
Jess Brady went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the winners, while Erin Provost had two hits of her own. Amanda Stevens and Lauren Dulkis each drove in a run.
In the second game, Brady laid down a bunt to score Dana Grimm from third to give Maine the win.
Jenna Merchant rapped an RBI double for the 9-4 Bears, and Nikki Taylor added an RBI single and a key sacrifice bunt in the eighth to move Grimm from second to third.
Merchant picked up her fifth win of the season with eight strikeouts.
