BANGOR – Canine Assistants, a nonprofit group dedicated to training animals to enhance the lives of children and adults who have physical disabilities and other special needs, is searching for individuals in Bangor who want the assistance of a service dog.

The Atlanta-based organization has placed more than 300 service dogs across the country. There is no charge for the dogs, and food and veterinary care is provided for the lifetime of the canine assistant. The dogs know more than 90 commands and perform a variety of tasks, including opening doors, turning on lights, retrieving objects and pulling wheelchairs.

For an application call Canine Assistants at 1-800-771-7221 or visit www.canineassistants.org.
