Orono police arrested a woman after she allegedly tried to stab her twin sister with a steak knife Monday.
Shortly before 6 p.m., Sgts. Gary Duquette and Scott Scripture went to a Sherman Drive address in response to a 911 call.
They found Theresa Dempster, 38, of Orono just leaving the apartment of her twin, Angela Greene. Scripture had Dempster wait outside while Duquette spoke to Greene.
During a dispute about Dempster’s 11-year-old son, Greene said, Dempster grew more and more upset, trying to punch her.
When the blow missed, Greene said, Dempster went into the kitchen and seized a steak knife. Dempster then lunged with the knife, attempting to stab her sister, but missed her.
Greene dialed 911. She said Dempster put down the knife and tore the phone out of the wall.
Duquette arrested Dempster for criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and obstructing the report of a crime. Dempster spent Monday night at Penobscot County Jail, Duquette said, but is now out on release.
Duquette said he believed Dempster’s son spent the night with his aunt, and that the Department of Human Services is looking into the situation.
Duquette noted that Dempster has quite a criminal history, having served jail time in New York and North Carolina.
A Bangor convenience store manager found drug paraphernalia in the employee restroom Tuesday evening.
At 6:30 p.m. Mandi Clark, who manages the Ohio Street 7-Eleven store, called police with a drug complaint.
Officer Eric Tourtelotte said that Clark had found a razor blade and a small tube with white powder on it in the employee restroom.
An employee at the store said that every once in a while the store will let a customer use the employee restroom, depending on who is on duty.
A Florida woman ran a stop sign in Bangor early Tuesday morning and ended up in jail.
Officer James Dearing said that at about 1:15 a.m. he saw Cher Stanley, 31, of Jacksonville drive through the stop sign on Railroad Street where it intersects Summer Street.
On Main Street, Dearing signaled Stanley to pull over. Dearing said that Stanley’s pupils were dilated and that she appeared intoxicated.
Stanley performed poorly on sobriety tests, Dearing said, and registered 0.21 percent blood alcohol level on the Intoxilyzer. Dearing took Stanley to Penobscot County Jail and charged her with operating under the influence, he said.
When Officer Sean Green found some marijuana in Stanley’s car, Stanley admitted that it was hers, saying, “It’s just a little weed.”
She was summoned for possession of marijuana.
Hampden police arrested a man after he confessed to assaulting his wife Tuesday afternoon. At 4:30 p.m. Sgt. Scott Webber and Officer Benson Eyles received a call of a domestic assault in progress.
When the officers arrived at the Kennebec Road address, they found 33-year-old Dale Covey somewhat agitated.
Webber and Eyles managed to calm Covey down, Webber said. According to Covey’s wife, Covey had been out all day fishing and drinking.
An argument broke out between Covey and his wife when he returned home, she said, and he grabbed her by the head and neck and pushed her around the house. She then called the police.
Covey’s wife had no bruises, Webber said, but Covey admitted to the assault.
Covey was cooperative when the officers arrested him. He was charged with domestic assault.
Webber said he knew of no past incidents with Covey, and expected he would make bail that night.
