BANGOR – A Matchbox car race scheduled for March 30 will benefit children who are patients at a Haitian hospital.
The Sunday school program at Essex Street Baptist Church, 84 Essex St., will sponsor the Bon Samaritan 500 to support the Bon Samaritan Hospital in Limbe, Haiti. The hospital, administered by an interdenominational board drawn from Haiti and the United States, operates a triage clinic, a children’s orphanage, and a small hospital serving patients living within a 200-mile radius.
According to Edna Taber of the church, the Sunday school has supported the Bon Samaritan Hospital for more than 40 years. Each month, the Sunday school sends money to the hospital and collects toy cars and plastic dolls for Haitian children who are patients or who live at the orphanage.
The Bon Samaritan 500 will start at 9:30 a.m. March 30 at Essex Street Baptist Church. All children are invited to bring Matchbox or die-cast cars to race in competitive heats; each participant can race two cars.
Anyone who wishes to donate a Matchbox car may contact Taber at 989-3237 or Essex Street Baptist Church at 942-4177.
