PORTLAND – The Maine Department of Labor will hold its second Occupational Safety and Health Research Symposium May 21 and 22 at the University of New England Portland campus. The Maine Occupational Research Agenda is co-hosting the event.

More than 60 local and national speakers will address the symposium topic, “Using Research to Improve Workplace Safety and Health,” and will discuss how research can be used to make workplace changes that reduce injuries and illnesses. Dr. Nancy Stout, director of the division of safety research of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, will deliver the opening day keynote address. Dr. Glenn Pransky, director of the Liberty Mutual Center for Disability Research, will deliver the keynote presentation on the second day. Photojournalist Earl Dotter, who has spent more than 30 years photographing U.S. workers at risk, will present his new exhibit “The Price of Fish: Our Nation’s Most Perilous Job Takes Life and Limb in New England.”
